This program is our Birthday Bash for Beethoven’s Ode to Joy tune, turning 200 this year! Britten’s song cycle was a gift to celebrate the Queen Mother from her daughter, Queen Elizabeth II. Dutch composer Rosy Wertheim’s improvisatory music uses evocative texts by the Chinese poet Li Tai-Po.
